Goldbeck
Model: Superb
Sax: alto, tenor, baritone
Material: solid nickel silver
Chamber: large
Baffle: low
Description: Two Superb model alto models are shown in these pictures which feature the same fluted walls as the Babbitt ‘Master Link’ models. The similarity of the original Goldbeck and later Kaspar mouthpieces and logos is shown below. The ‘Superb’ models featured a large chamber, curved inner walls, and a low baffle.
Goldbeck & Co. mouthpieces were made from American (J.J. Babbitt/Otto Link) and French (Selmer, Lelandais, Riffault, and Chedeville) blanks, starting in the 1920s. Frank Kaspar senior (a former employee of Goldbeck) later took over Goldbeck & Co. and continued to produce the same line of mouthpieces under the name ‘Frank Kaspar Co, Chicago Ill.’ Some of the mouthpieces were turned down on a lathe to remove the trade mark of the blank supplier.
On the left is a baritone model (the ligature is not original).
On the left is a rare A. Goldbeck France hard rubber mouthpiece. A metal ring is at the bottom of the shank.
On the left is a ‘Superb’ mouthpiece identical to the ones above, but the stamp reads ‘Frank L. Kaspar Successor to Goldbeck & Co. Chicago, ILL’. On the side it is marked ‘Pat. FEB 10, 1920’, and ‘3’.
Shown here is a soprano ‘Superb’ model which features a large chamber.
