Description:  A Martin ‘Committee’ baritone hard rubber mouthpiece is shown on the left. It is marked “Martin” on top in the same style script as was engraved on the bell of Martin Committee saxophones.

The Martin Band Instrument company was founded by John Henry Martin and his five sons. John Martin was born in 1835 in the German city of Dresden and learned instrument building in Markneukirchen (originally the home of Keilwerth, Amati and other saxophone makers). In 1855 he immigrated to the US and founded The Martin Company in 1865. In 1876 the family moved to Elkhart, In, and produced high-quality saxophones there, along with an own line of mouthpieces.
