Julius Neumann

Model:  Julius Neumann

Sax:  tenor

Material:  brass

Chamber: large

Baffle:

Description:  This is an early (1920s) gold-plated brass mouthpiece for tenor saxophone, stamped “78/PAT. Jun 23-1925/Julius Neumann-Maker-Chicago. ILL” which features an unusual, Lawton-style ligature and a reed guard. Both the mouthpiece and reed guard are hand engraved. Also unusual is the houreglass shaped body of the mouthpiece (narrowing in the middle). It has a roll-over baffle and the side walls are hollow & concave. Possibly, Otto Link might have made these mouthpieces for a private label as it appears to be made from a Master Link blank.

On the left and below is another Neumann tenor mouthpiece Brian Powell has worked on (replaced the bite plate, opened the tip to 0.110”).
