PPT Mouthpieces

Model:  PPT

Sax:  tenor, baritone

Material:  onyxite

Chamber: medium

Baffle: medium

Description:  The PPT mouthpieces are hand made from start to finish (and not made from imported blanks). They are made of Onyxite, a resin/stone composite material that was developed by Ed Pillinger. The baffle has no rollover and less pronounced ‘bullet’ shape than a Berg Larsen and is rounded off and polished by hand. Each mouthpiece has a solid, un-lacquered brass ring at the shank. PPT tenor mouthpieces are available in 7* (0.105”), 8* (0.117), and 9* (0.125”).

Some prototypes have different materials, such as the ‘Goldite’ on the left that was made from a 22ct gold composite, or the ‘Bronzite’ below. Note the bullet chamber.

Pete Thomas is a composer, music producer, recording artist, and educator from the UK. He has featured as saxophone player and recording/broadcast artist for REM, Elton John, Joe Jackson, Richard Thompson, Fats Domino, Jimmy Witherspoon and many others, and has recorded soundtracks albums for film (e.g., Francis Ford Coppola’s movie ‘Tucker’). His search for a mouthpiece that could give him a more characterful sound let him to experiment and start producing own mouthpieces in collaboration with Edward Pillinger.
