Description: Pillinger mouthpieces are available in hard rubber (pictured below) or bronzite (pictured left), a blend of synthetic hard rubber with a high bronze, brass, and copper content. A wide range of mouthpieces are available:
- Soprano: ‘P’ (vibrant), ‘S’ (classic, French style), ‘C’ (for C-soprano instruments).
- Alto: ‘NY’ (classic 1950s’ NY be-bop style), ‘HB’ (vibrant), ‘Soloist’ (classic, French style)
-Tenor: ‘LL’ (powerful), ‘NY’ (NY 1950s style), ‘NY HB’ (like the above NY but with baffle set higher)
- Baritone: ‘P’ (clear and responsive), ‘L’ (vintage Berg Larsen style), ‘R’ (large-chamber), ‘Q’ (slender high baffle)
Edward Pillinger studied clarinet at the Royal Academy of Music in London, UK. He subsequently pursued a distinguished international career as soloist and chamber music player, performing with ensembles such as the London Sinfonietta, and making numerous recordings for the BBC. He also taught for many years at the Guildhall School of Music. His interest in mouthpiece making gradually assumed a more important role and led him to undertake several years of doctoral research.
