Riffault

Model:  J8

Sax:  alto, tenor, baritone

Material:  hard rubber

Chamber: large round

Baffle: low

Description:  Pictured is a vintage (1950s/60s) Riffault France mouthpiece with an original J8 facing. Due to it’s large and round chamber with a low baffle, they are reminiscent of vintage Otto Link mouthpieces, although the outer profile is slimmer.

The French brand Riffault provided mouthpiece blanks to many other companies (e.g., every Strasser-Marigaux saxophone was delivered with a Riffault mouthpiece) which were often distributed under different brands. The most common is the ‘IDEAL Paris France’ brand. IDEAL mouthpieces had facing numbers that started with an ‘R’ for ‘Riffault’ (e.g., ‘R4’).
